Company profile - History

SOS-Elektronik was founded in 2002 by Swen Hagelstein in
Wasserburg am Bodensee.

Thanks to Hagelstein, SOS-Elektronik benefits from his over 35 years of experience in CNC control and drive technology gained at companies including Andron GmbH in Wasserburg (now LTI Motion/KEBA), Walter Maschinenbau GmbH in Tübingen, and Walter Grinders in Fredericksburg, Virginia (now United Grinding).

In 2003, SOS-Elektronik started to develop, repair, and overhaul system components for older Walter machines because the original manufacturers had discontinued many spare parts due to their age.

In 2007, the “CNC retrofit idea” made its breakthrough on two four-axis CNC grinding machines.

By the end of 2019, SOS-Elektronik had given over 80 machines worldwide a “second life” through its CNC retrofit.

Today, SOS-Elektronik can equip almost all tool grinding machines with a CNC retrofit, regardless of whether they have stepper motors or servo drives and regardless of the number of axes (between 2 and 8).

Thus, SOS-Elektronik has created an innovative, contemporary platform that saves customers from costly new purchases while preserving usable machine components. Through selective conversion to the latest electronic standards, SOS-Elektronik provides a performance guarantee on par with all current machine models, saving important resources for future generations.
